Asbestos Notice

Asbestos Notification

2025

Maywood Public School completed a required AHERA 3 year inspection.

Maywood Public Schools is notifying parents, patrons and the community that our school contains asbestos.  The elementary school contains asbestos floor tile in each of the classrooms.  None of the exposed tile in the kindergarten shows signs of deterioration of tiles exposing students and staff to potential friable asbestos exposure according to our August 2025 three year inspection.  Friable asbestos tiles create a health hazard by putting small asbestos particles in the air.  Classroom tile in grades 1 – 3 are under the carpet in each classroom and do not create an exposure risk.

The kitchen area and lunchroom areas also contain asbestos tile.  Upon inspection the tiles in the lunchroom area are in good shape and currently do not create a friable asbestos exposure hazard.  The preschool has asbestos tile in a portion of the classroom and they are in good condition.   Asbestos tile is located under the carpet and do not represent an asbestos exposure hazard.

The high school has asbestos located in the ceiling covering of the gym.  As long as the ceiling material is not disturbed no hazard exists.  The tile flooring in the science room may contain asbestos. Other tile in the high school have been removed or are covered.  The staff/concessions room inspected that the tile was in good shape.

The building was inspected by Atlas Technical Consultants on July 29, 2025.

A complete inspection report is available at the Superintendent’s Office.
