Mrs. Emily Garrison Lenz
Special Education & Title 1
6 th Grade Science & General Science
Hello!
My name is Emily Lenz. I am serving the students of Maywood as the K-12 Special Education and Title 1 teacher. In this capacity, I provide interventions and
accommodations to students who might benefit from them, and I co-teach in classrooms throughout the school. I also teach 6th Grade Science and a General Science class. I have a passion for science and hands-on learning and look forward to working with my students to learn about the world around them. In addition to classroom teaching, this year, I will begin to teach Drivers Education to students at Maywood Schools and I will be the sponsor for Elementary, Junior High, and High School Quiz Bowl. I will also serve this year as the Senior Class Sponsor, alongside Javier Martinez. My husband, Tyron and I live in Curtis and have 4 children. 9-year-old Stone and 3-year-old Ivy both attend Maywood Public School. 24-year-old Keaton works for the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, and 21-year-old, Landon works for Browns Plumbing, Heating, and Air in Curtis. My husband owns Tyron Lenz Construction in Curtis. I enjoy any activity that brings my family together. My hobbies include long range shooting, hunting, kayaking, camping, cheering for the Huskers and the Royals, cooking with my family and friends, and being outside as much as possible!
I also enjoy volunteering in the community. I direct the Frontier County Food Pantry, serve as a volunteer EMT with the Frontier County EMS Squad, serve on the Area Senior Citizen’s Center Board, and serve on the University of Nebraska - Frontier County Extension Board. I received my Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Science and Natural Resources from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. I received my Associate of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology from the University of Nebraska - College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis. I received my Masters of Agriculture with a focus in Extension Education from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado. I received my teaching certificate and my Natural Science 6-12 endorsement from the University of Nebraska in Kearney. I received my K-12 Special Education endorsement from Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota.
This is my 5th year teaching at Maywood Public Schools, and I thoroughly enjoy it! Before coming to Maywood, my teaching career consisted of 3 years teaching middle school science in Grand Island, NE, 3 years teaching middle school science in the Colorado Springs and Denver, CO area, 3 years teaching middle school Special Education and Science in Cheyenne, WY and 2 years teaching high school chemistry and physical science in North Platte, NE. The 2021-2022 school year is my 16th year of teaching and it promises to be the best so far! I am honored to work with the students, staff and parents at Maywood Public Schools and look forward to work with and for each of you!
Please feel free to contact me at emily.garrison@maywoodtigers.org if you have any questions. I look forward to working with you!
